AARP-backed bill would have N.Y. hospitals training family caregivers

This article highlights the Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable (CARE) Act, which requires hospitals to 1) record the name of the patient’s chosen caregiver; 2) notify this caregiver if the patient will be discharged; and 3) train the caregiver in routine follow-up medical tasks. As of publication, Arkansas, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Virginia and West Virginia had passed this legislation. Additional information is available via AARP at
