Hello! My mom has COPD and is taking several nebulized medications. She is currently following a schedule put in place a couple years ago while she hospitalized for COVID that spaces the medications throughout the day. The problem is that she also has MS with significant memory issues. So despite all the systems we have put in place, she inevitably forgets some of the medications throughout the day. I'm wondering if it would make more sense to condense some of the medications so she didn't have to think about the schedule for the entire day, maybe just one session in the morning and one at night.
Here is her current schedule. All medications are nebulized:
- 3 am - Yupelri
- 7 am - Budesonid
- 11 am - Budesonid
- 3 pm - Formoterol
- 7 pm - Albuterol
- 11 pm - Formoterol
Based on the categories of medicine and her actual prescriptions (which just say Yupelri once a day, and Budesonid and Formoterol twice a day), it makes more sense to me that she should just do the Yupelri, Budesonid, and Formoterol back to back in the morning. And then in the evening do the Budesonid and Formoterol back to back. Then she could use the Albuterol midday as needed.
Is there any actual reason for the medications to be spread out the way they are? I think the pulmonologist in the hospital probably just did they based on hospital scheduling, so would it be okay to condense them? As it is, she almost never does all of her medications in a day, there's always at least one she forgets and usually it's 2 or 3 forgotten.
Thanks!
