Meet Your State Advocacy Captains!

State Captains are volunteers with COPD, caregivers, friends and family members or healthcare providers who use their contacts and talents and partner with the COPD Foundation to serve as state and community leaders.

Captains promote the importance of becoming a part of the COPD community. They work to spread COPD awareness in their state and local areas, mentor fellow COPD community members, and participate in online and in-person grassroots advocacy and community building activities focused on health policy issues that are important to those who have COPD. This is Lorrie Williams, State Captain in Mississippi. Lorrie lives in Southern Mississippi and knows firsthand what it is like to live with the challenges of living with COPD in the heat, humidity, and hurricanes. Lorrie was diagnosed with COPD in 2017 and found herself with a diagnosis she knew very little about. She felt like she was in desperate need of answers and found the COPD Foundation was just what she was looking for.

Lorrie is a wonderful encourager and is dedicated to helping other people find the answers they are looking for about living well with COPD. She is eager to advocate and help raise awareness for COPD in her community.

She wants people to know that it is important for people to feel good about seeking help for their COPD and not feel blamed for having this illness. Lorrie wants to help people get connected with the tools they need to live a long, healthy life.

Her motto is: “When faith is found, the world gets a whole lot brighter!”

That sums Lorrie up perfectly – she is truly here to help.
