Meet Your COPD Foundation Captains!

COPD Foundation Captains are volunteers with COPD, caregivers, friends and family members or healthcare providers who use their contacts and talents and partner with the COPD Foundation to serve as state and community leaders.

Captains promote the importance of becoming a part of the COPD community. They work to spread COPD awareness in their state and local areas, mentor fellow COPD community members, and participate in online and in-person grassroots advocacy and community building activities focused on health policy issues that are important to those who have COPD. If you'd like to speak with a COPD Foundation Captain directly, please email statecaptains@copdfoundation.org and we will connect you with the Captain in your area of interest.

My desire to serve as a State Captain in Texas arises from both personal experience and a commitment to helping others living with COPD.

My desire to serve as a State Captain in Texas arises from both personal experience and a commitment to helping others living with COPD.

When I was diagnosed with emphysema in 2018, it gave me the firsthand understanding of the physical, emotional, and mental impact this disease can have on both patients and their families.

Through my own journey, I’ve learned that a COPD diagnosis isn’t an end - it’s the beginning of learning how to live differently - with purpose, hope, and determination. This experience has been a meaningful part of my life. I would like to help support others facing this disease - especially those who may feel overwhelmed, isolated, or uncertain about what lies ahead - even if it is simply by sharing my own experience.

Because I was fortunate to have the support of my family and friends throughout my journey, I understand just how valuable a strong support system can be. I hope to offer that same support to others facing this disease, because no one should have to go through it alone.

There is a need for greater awareness and education around pulmonary rehabilitation. Despite its proven benefits, only a percentage of people diagnosed with COPD take part in pulmonary rehab programs. Texans living with COPD can benefit greatly from peer support, advocacy, education, and guidance from someone who understands the daily realities of the disease firsthand. I welcome the opportunity to help connect patients and families with resources, support systems, and hope. I would like to help organize local events, build stronger community partnerships and expand support networks throughout Texas.

As a State Captain, I want to become involved in advocacy efforts and healthcare policy discussions at both the local, county and state levels. I believe we can create meaningful change for the COPD community - raising awareness among our communities and government leaders to ensure that individuals living with COPD receive care, attention, and support.

I am passionate about preventive medicine and community health, and I’m committed to empowering patients through education, early intervention, and increased awareness. I’m also interested in supporting research efforts that advance treatment options and improve outcomes for people living with COPD.

Above all, I believe that taking the first step toward better health is essential - and that having a caring, supportive community beside you can make all the difference.
