My Father (71) has emphysema - he is on oxygen therapy 24/7 for the past 3 months. we "think" he might have a chest infection at the moment, we are waiting on results but hes been on an antibiotic for 4 days now anyway ( just in case)
my question is - his sats are all over the place - he is currenlty on 4L all the time - he cant walk anymore - it takes too much out if him . this morning his sats were at a staggering 29 ! but managed to get up to 87 in the afternoon only to drop again to 37 - this is all while stationary by the way . the doc was out two days ago when this started and he said there was "no point" in sending him to hospital as they would only be doing what we are doing at home .. as in administering antibiotics and monitoring sats . can . does anyone know how this fluctuation happens ? im afraid he will collapse on my mother who is caring for him and is also 71. should he really be in hospital as ive a feeling this is some sort of respiratory failure . any help or advise would be much appreciated as im not sure what to do. has anyone else experienced this ?
