Hello all. First time poster. So to be as brief as possible, my dad recently died in his sleep on August 7th 2020 at the age of 71. He was diagnosed with COPD 2 years ago. He was a smoker his entire life. Even still smoked after the recent diagnoses and after a quadruple bypass he had 6 years ago.
So on the night he died, he went to his doctor earlier that the day. His doctor found some fluid in his lungs along with an enlarged heart. Being that he lived in nyc, i assumed it was covid. But his doctor never tested him due to the fact that he did not have a fever, and his doctor didn't think he had it. I don't think he had the virus either, but I'll never know.
Since he lived alone, i got concerned because he wasn't answering the phone. 911 was called. The police opened his door and found him. I drove in from Philadelphia and when i saw him i broke down immediately. When i looked at him, I noticed he had some saliva coming out his mouth, maybe it was sputum, I want to think he died due to lack of oxygen and his heart gave out. But I'm not a doctor.
My question to the community is.... since he saw a doctor that morning he died, why wasn't he rushed to a hospital. It's like he died so quick. The doctor took xrays, wouldn't he have seen the severity? They found some water in the lungs, diagnosed him with pneumonia. That's why i thought it was covid. Just no fever. He did run out of breath while walking. Started to have difficulties in talking, i wanna say 5 months ago. He was on water pills because he was starting to swell. I'm just confused i guess. Thought i would share. Thank you all
