We live in SC. I have recently joined the community for more information. My mom has been in the hospital for 19 days now. She crashed pretty hard on September 27th and ended up on the vent in ICU for about 8 days before they moved her to the bigger hospital ICU MUSC. They were going to do the trach there. They removed the breathing tube there and were able to get her down to just oxygen without doing the trach. They have now moved her back to our smaller hospital locally in a regular room. They say she will be there for a few days and may end up going home on oxygen. This has been a crazy experience. She has been in the hospital before with COPD but nothing like this. MUSC said she should go to rehab but she only has SC Medicaid which doesn't cover the rehab. Its going to be tough on her with this COPD as it progresses. Apparently the SC Medicaid doesn't cover much. Does anyone have experience dealing with SC Medicaid as it pertains to the COPD?
