This was a retrospective cohort study of COPD patients aged 40-64 to determine rates and predictors of hospital readmission. The rate of 30-day readmission in this sample was 8.9%; patient sex, number and type of comorbidities, specific medications and process of care measures predicted readmission within 30 days of discharge. Patients seeing a primary care physician or pulmonologist within 30 days of discharge had lower rates of readmission.
