This is a review article examining the efficacy of self-management interventions in relation to two main outcomes: 1) patient health outcomes and 2) healthcare utilization. Ultimately, 29 controlled studies were included for analysis. Self-management interventions were found to have a statistically significant positive impact on health-related quality of life, probability of respiratory-related and all-cause hospitalizations and levels of dyspnea.
