I'm diagnosed with both COPD and asthma. I have static and dynamic hyperinflation. I am physically unable to take a full inhale using diaphragm alone. My pulmonary consultant has not diagnosed a BPD. A physiotherapist who I have consulted to get help with problems I have while walking (caused by the hyperinflation and air trapping, I think) has diagnosed me with a BPD. She says I have apical breathing (yes, I do, I have to use accessory muscles to some ext) and I over breathe. I'm just curious if anyone else has any experience of BPD. Her recommendation is to practice relaxation and belly breathing to re-train my breathing patterns. She did not elaborate on why that would help my walking.
