Hi guys, never diagnosed but worrying. I posted on here a month ago about excess phlegm and worrying about possibly having chronic bronchitis, I’m 28. I quit smoking 5 months ago, and the little bit of morning phlegm I had when I smoked went away within a month, it went brownish for a while then went away. 2 months of no phlegm at all nothing, not even a dry cough, I felt amazing and happy. Then back to back infections 2 months ago.. Flu - got over it in about a week but still a bit of mucus, then what I now know as covid a couple weeks after.. the clear bit of phlegm left over from flu went green and then brain fog and then a fever. Well it’s 8 weeks since I got the flu and started with the phlegm again and 4 weeks since I got over the Covid, I still have yellowish (I say ish because it looks white until it’s on a tissue and then there’s a tinge of yellow to it) Phlegm in the morning now, not every day but maybe every other. Yesterday for example had the tickle in throat I normally get when I have phlegm but when I coughed nothing came up, then this morning I thought the same but after moving around for an hour and doing my jobs I got the tickle, coughed and then a glob about the size of my pinky fingernail came up. Whitey/yellow ish and a bit brown similar looking to when I quit smoking. I know the brown can’t be anything serious like old blood because I’ve only ever had it when I’ve quit, eg. quit for a bit 18 months ago and I remember getting it, then when I quit for good this time I got it. But the phlegm is bothering me now, I know it’s not a lot but why is it still happening? I feel I’ve got chronic bronchitis but at the same time I don’t, surely it wouldn’t have gone away a month after quitting if it was chronic bronchitis?? But this morning it upset me a lot when I saw the phlegm still, like why is it still happening? I start going down the spiral of that I won’t be able to go on a plane without oxygen within a few years and my newfound love for hiking will have to stop. I never get short of breath, I was running 5k’s in under 22 minutes before I got ill 2 months ago, my respiration rate when sleeping is 10.5-16 so my watch says and my oxygen is 98- 100 whenever I’ve been to doctors, my peak flow is 60litres above average for my age and height according to my girlfriends peak flow meter. is it just a prolonged post infectious cough? But what’s the brown and yellow now? Still debris from smoking 5 months later? I have anxiety and I feel if I get it properly checked out at the doctors it’s a lose lose situation for me, if I don’t have it , I’ve done exactly what you shouldn’t with anxiety (reassurance seeking) and if I do then everything will get so much worse.
