Hi, M28 - 4 months quit smoking - not diagnosed. Checked sputum every day after having bronchitis a year back that ended up bringing up flecks of blood. Scared me! Chest X-ray all clear. Checking everyday made me realise I had a mild smokers productive cough - sputum amount about the size of pinky fingernail in morning… Quit smoking 4 months ago after becoming more aware of COPD symptoms - once quit phlegm turned brown then it lessened and lessened until after a month of being quit it went - I didn’t cough for 3 months. Got a Peak flow meter to monitor lungs - scores went up from 600-620 at the start to 720 (650 norm for my height and age) Went on holiday recently and ended up ill, someone a couple rows in front on the plane hacking and coughing awfully - I’d been burning the candle at both ends for a month so no surprise I got ill - had noravirus/food poisoning a few weeks before so immune system probably a bit shot. Well I had a sore throat and then next day my nose was pouring and it was on my chest, fever you name it, rubbish holiday… didn’t realise it was possible to have that much snot and phlegm… well on Monday it’ll be 3 weeks ago since I got over the fever etc. and I’m worried because my phlegm hasn’t really improved, thick stuff in the morning and clear stuff constantly through the day, is this a sign of chronic bronchitis? Like it’s nearly a month since I got ill and it’s still there and more than I had even when I was smoking, had a blood test and shows still have a virus, seems I’ve picked up a cold the past week as well as it’s affecting my nose and ears now and chest not so much just still got the phlegm from the first illness. Either that or it just never fully went because I didn’t rest properly, I’m so busy I don’t have time… Doctors aren’t concerned at all,I have anxiety as well which doesn’t help. Surely if I had Chronic Bronchitis/COPD my phlegm wouldn’t have disappeared after I quit smoking?? I can’t keep my mind of it.
