I am 47 and have severe COPD. Lung functions are at 30%. I am currently sick and afraid. So far my symptoms are sore throat, runny nose and body ache. I went to the ER and I was tested negative for RSV, flu, COVID and strep. They gave me some nasal spray and some cough medicine in pill form to take if I become congested.
I only have an occasional urge to cough and it is because of the tickle in my throat. I am freaking out though because I do not want it to reach my lungs. The things I read on Google make it seem like a death sentence if you come down with a cough or congestion in your lungs.
I guess my questions are how do you generally handle being sick? Does it happen to you often? Have you been hospitalized before? What was done?
I have been taking Coricidin HBP for my symptoms. Lots of water. Orange juice. Rest. Hot showers. It is not getting worse but also not getting better.
Is it possible to get sick with a cough and congestion and not die? I certainly hope so. I am just not sure what to do or how panicked to be because I do not get sick often and this is the first time in years and the first time since I have been diagnosed.
I appreciate any and all answers.
