Im 60. Couple of months back, I suffered pneumonia and was on ventilator for it for 4 days. It covered most of the upper lobe of right lung and part of left. I'm told I have "Severe centrilobular emphysema throughout both lung" and "Severe diffuse emphysematous changes in both lung". Its all because of smoking of course. Along with this I had cor pulmonale, right heart failure, acute respiratory failure, when i was admitted.
Even after 2 months of extubation, I can walk only a little and that too with a walker. Also, on oxygen all the time.
Can anyone give me a realistic answer if I would ever be able gain my strength back to walk without a walker enough considering the health issues? And even though it would seem obvious that I should quit smoking now, but if I don't, how long am I looking towards? Not looking for the best case scenario answers. Just realistic.
