My mom has been on 5 liters of oxygen for about a year now. Except for her lungs she's actually pretty healthy. 77 years old blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol ....all good numbers but with COPD her lungs are shot. My question is has anybody experienced a rapid decline in their oxygen levels with relatively minor exertion? She walks about 20 feet from her bedroom to the kitchen to get coffee or water or a sandwich and has to sit down because she's so out of breath. She then gets up and goes back to her room and has to practice pursed lip breathing just for that 20 foot walk. I checked her oxygen during those times and it drops from mid-90s down to upper 60s lower 70s for about 5 minutes. Her lung function test was 29% 6 months ago. And her coughing has increased greatly. She just started taking steroids again about 2 weeks ago I know as soon as she's off of them her cough is going to be worse. We have a doctor's appointment in about a week and she doesn't have any other symptoms like a fever but I have concerns that her oxygen levels drop so quickly. And take several minutes to come back.
