This is follow-up to the recent post about my surprise when I found out that Advair Discus was no longer covered by any Medicare plan in my zip code.
There are generics. The plans seem to cover these generics. In my plan, I get the generic drug at $0 cost. They also cover alternative Breo Ellipta which has different active drugs.
One is an Authorized Generic in partnership with original manufacturer GSK. The generic company seems to be building a business on doing partnerships with many drugs. It may be that GSK wants to step away now and not make this drug anymore, as there is a generic to do that. There is also a second generic that is approved by the FDA. This manufacturer is a well-known company out of Isreal, TEVA, this drug is manufactured in Ireland and distributed by their USA branch. The pharmacist at CVS says it is one of the better manufacturers, and it is the generic they do stock (although they could special order the other Authorized generic).
