I’m 25 and recently had PFTs showing mild obstruction (FEV1/FVC ratio around 76%), low peak flow, no bronchodilator response, and a normal DLCO. I have no history of smoking.
About five months ago, I started experiencing breathlessness nearly out of nowhere. Since then, I’ve had urgent care and ER visits, and seen asthma and allergy specialists. Initially, the first doctor I saw thought it was asthma, and I was prescribed medication that seemed to help a bit. However, my recent PFT results have left me unsure.
I was very active before this but now my breathlessness limits me a lot.
This week will be my first time seeing a pulmonologist, and I’ve been waiting a while for this appointment. Since all of this is new to me, I really want to make sure I get the most out of the visit.
Could this be early COPD or another form of small airways disease? What questions should I be sure to ask?
