Hi I’m hoping to get some help with some questions I have about this terrible disease. My dad was diagnosed with Stage 3 COPD 12 years ago. He has had several hospitalizations due to pneumonia and the COPD was worse after each one. He has been on full time oxygen 4L for 10 years. In the last couple years he has become house bound with daily tasks being to much for him. Home care was going twice a week to help him shower and tidy his apartment. A couple months ago he was hospitalized for heart failure. The ECHO showed 50 percent ejection fraction so HFpEF. He is stable now with the HF but had severe edema and it was in his lungs as well. They have gotten 15 pounds of fluid off him with diuretics. He is exhausted all the time now and experiencing periods of confusion and hallucinations. I’ve noticed his lips are blue all the time now and never seem to go back to normal. He is experiencing nausea almost daily. The doctor told me he is end stage now. I guess I’m just wondering what to expect now. This is my first experience with COPD and let me tell you it is so hard watching your once strong dad lose all independence and struggle to breathe.
