I have just been diagnosed with emphysema.I am male aged 71,never smoked etc.Pretty traumatised by reading about it all as i never thought it would be one of the many possible problems that old age would present me with. However i have another problem , i also suffer from BPH (enlarged prostate) this creates a catch 22 type problem for an copd patient in that i can not use an inhaler which seem to constitute 99% of all treatment possibilities.Patients of my age who have never used an inhaler before find their entire urinary tract shuts down causing severe infection to kidneys etc brought about by the chemicals in the inhalers. The only treatment i am getting is1 oral pill Doxofyline 400mg for my emphysema so i am feeling pretty much left out of things. There is very little research about this problem but it is there and i am speaking from first hand experience,as after it happened to me i discovered the research. I think that urinary specialists are more aware of this problem than lung specialists.I am hoping that someone out there knows more about this than me, and if there is the possibility that different inhalors have different effect on the urinary tract. All info related to this problem welcome
