Hello, I would like to know some information related to bronchiectasis, about its connection with Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID).
Half of bronchiectasis cases are idiopathic, means the cause of bronchiectasis is unknown. However I have a interest to explore the cause of my bronchiectasis.
I just found some information about CVID (Common Variable Immune Deficiency). It's a primary immunodeficiency where the patient will have low immunoglobulins. The patient with CVID will be more vulnerable to infection.
I read that 1 in 12 bronchiectasis cases is related to CVID. I feel more concerned about CVID since I had some infections before diagnosed with bronchiectasis.
I had some infection during childhood. I had otitis media since I was a baby. I had recurrent ear infection everyday. The ear infection gradually stopped when I was 15 years old, but after that I coughed with mucus. Then the bronchiectasis came when I was 18 years old.
CVID is a rare disease, but can I ask some question about CVID to my doctor? Is it wise to ask a Immunoglobulin test to my doctor? Thank you for your comments :)
