The Florida Department of Health has included COPD in its State Health Improvement Plan, apparently the first state in the country to do so.

The 2014 State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) is the document used by the Department of Health to lay out the agency’s goals for 2014. As part of the state’s goal to reduce chronic disease morbidity and mortality, the strategy is to promote early detection and screening for COPD as well as other chronic diseases like asthma, cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
