Meet Your COPD Foundation Captains!

COPD Foundation Captains are volunteers with COPD, caregivers, friends and family members or healthcare providers who use their contacts and talents and partner with the COPD Foundation to serve as state and community leaders.

Captains promote the importance of becoming a part of the COPD community. They work to spread COPD awareness in their state and local areas, mentor fellow COPD community members, and participate in online and in-person grassroots advocacy and community building activities focused on health policy issues that are important to those who have COPD. If you'd like to speak with a COPD Foundation Captain directly, please email statecaptains@copdfoundation.org and we will connect you with the Captain in your area of interest.

As a respiratory therapist, and the newest state captain from Kansas, I hope that my experience and education can help further the education and treatment of COPD to help people living with COPD to live to their fullest.

As a State Captain, I am most interested in connecting others in the COPD community to the resources available so they can live healthier, fuller lives, and participating and promoting research opportunities to help find a cure. I would also like to help raise awareness by participating in health fairs and community events.

My proudest COPD moment has been when a relationship is built between a patient and myself, providing them the ability to trust me to care for them in their time of need.

My inspiration to share is, “"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but building on the new." -Socrates

More about me, “I came to respiratory therapy the long way. I have a Bachelor's in Communications and a Master's in Management. I was not able to utilize my education in the areas that I worked in, so I decided to go back to school. I graduated from Washburn University in 2012 with an Associates in Respiratory Care. I am currently employed as a Respiratory Therapist at Stormont Vail and I have experience in the ER, medical, surgical and pediatric ICUs, and general floor therapy. I participated in the development of Therapist Driven Protocols for our department and I try to be available as a resource to fellow co-workers”
