Meet Your State Advocacy Captains!

State Captains are volunteers with COPD, caregivers, friends and family members or healthcare providers who use their contacts and talents and partner with the COPD Foundation to serve as state and community leaders.

Captains promote the importance of becoming a part of the COPD community. They work to spread COPD awareness in their state and local areas, mentor fellow COPD community members, and participate in online and in-person grassroots advocacy and community building activities focused on health policy issues that are important to those who have COPD. As a State Captain for California, I hope to accomplish awareness to the WORLD that you can live with COPD if your smart about. (then show them how to be smart about doing it) Also making the government understand how important one inhaler is to a suffering Copd patient. Working on getting cost lower so that ALL patients have a fighting chance to live a good life with this awful disease.

As a COPD advocate, I have emailed and met with my state and local officials, I have also written about COPD in my local newspaper, sent a letter to a member in Congress about COPD, and have participated in COPD research opportunities such as the COPD PPRN. Additionally, I have participated in health fairs and community events to promote COPD awareness, and am a member of a COPD support group.

As a State Captain, I am looking forward to writing about COPD to share my story and help raise awareness, working with state, local and national officials to improve COPD Policy, and connecting others in the COPD community to the resources available so they can live healthier, fuller lives.

My proudest COPD moment has been representing all of California in the SCR 59 Senate Concurrent Resolution-Making November officially the month for COPD Awareness and being the poster person for UC Davis Medical Center in November, and being chosen to make a inhaler commercial.and telling my story to the Fairfield Newspaper.

My inspiration to share is, “Life is like a mirror; it’ll smile at you if you smile at it”
