I was getting dressed and my nose started running. Wasn't concerned till I saw it was blood! This hasn't happened in years, was unexpected and unprovoked. I was standing over lavatory dripping with paper towels and kleenex in my left hand and cannula in my right. Got things kinda under control, not desparate for O2, trying to get nose taken care of, then I started to think "what do you really do if something bad happens to your nose and you DO really need the cannula"? When I first started on O2 I had an RN tell me if I needed to, I could put my cannula inside my upper lip against my teeth. I tried that a little but couldn't last too long that way. I'm thinking we ALL need to know what we can do in an emergency, so maybe the RTs and medical members will give me the correct way to take care of your O2 and nose at the same time.
