Putting aside patients with COPD who may also have allergic asthma, do people with JUST COPD such as chronic bronchitis, fail (react) to the methacholine challenge?
Im assuming not since a patient failing that challenge positively points to an asthma diagnosis.
It confuses me though…Considering that non-allergic insults such as fragrance, smoke, etc usually do upset the airways of a patient with COPD, wouldn’t they also react to the methacholine challenge since clearly COPD lungs are indeed reactive?
Just wondering what is in Methocholine that sets off only someone with an asthmatics lungs vs someone with chronic bronchitis, per-say.
I appreciate your time and effort reading this. My crazy story is why im asking… and for others too
