Is eliminating oxygen all the way after being on 4 liters part of the hospice protocol? Close Anonymous Unfriend Friend Requested Friend Load More Close Destination Page Area Group Destination Content Title Title Article Type Copy comments my mother choose hospice in the icu after when she was told it would lead to her being made comfortable, after a few low doses of morphine she was better but still in pain but choosing to stay ‘awake’ and not wanting morphine any longer so she could communicate- at some point the respiratory therapist turned the oxygen to 0 - which lead to lots of discomfort which lead to us requesting more morphine (10ml) and because she was still struggling to stay ‘awake’ then was given Ativan, and even more morphine- After 24 hrs she passed l- after watching and hearing her lungs fill up- am glad she has finally been relieved of her suffering but my question is - is it part of the hospice protocol to eliminate oxygen altogether? Am having a hard time thinking the hospice care was not exactly as explained originally and could have been more gentle
