The medicine is more likely to go past your tongue, and thus lesson the risk of thrush mouth. Also, most have a whistle, to warn when breathing in to fast. All are non-electrostatic. Oh, by the way, they require a scrip??? I have used 3 different styles:AeroChamber plus Flow-Vu {hands down the best...$12 on the net; $45 from my local pharmacist}; Vortex, by Astra-Zenica {no mouth piece cover or whistle}; the "pocket spacer" given to me by my rehab {the mouth piece cover falls off, and the mouth piece broke}. One final note, when I called my pulmo - his staff said they weren't necessary. I disagree, I found that I frequently increase the time between need for my emergency inhaler, because it is more effective at delivering the medicene to to the lungs! ed
