Active smoking greatly increases your risk of getting a COVID-19 infection because smoking one cigarette kills the cilia in your airways that remove inhaled bacteria and viruses. However, they are hardy little cells and regrow within about three days after you quit smoking. Now is the time to spend that money on Nicorette gum and/or patches instead of a carton of cigarettes.
