The SmartDose Mini manual says, "The normal volume of oxygen that SmartDose delivers is 16 ml per setting, so that a setting of 2 delivers 32 ml of oxygen on each breath, in the first 2/3 of the inhale cycle. SmartDose monitors a patient’s breathing patterns and automatically turns up the oxygen volume by one setting during exertion, and if breath rate continues to rise, by another setting."
At the 5 setting plus advancing 2 setting and breathing at 25 breathes per minute the SmartDose would actually be delivering 2.8 liter per minute. I am using an Eclipse 5 now and at the very best I am getting 2.2 lpm, but it has allowed me to take walks at a decent pace and without frequent stops to catch my air. It does limit me to one hour per battery(Don't believe the company hype, read the fine print in the manual). An UltraFill m9- mc13 3000psi tank will last the same amount of time or longer. I am in the 3rd month of a new 5 year medicare contract and can change systems but would love feedback from users of the SmartDose or the UltraFill system by Respronics before I switch. Might not be able to switch again for 5 years. Thanks for any feedback you may give.
