Can someone give any advice?
My dad who is 87 yrs old has been told that he has to have his big toe on the right foot amputated due to diabetes. The doctors are not sure if it will heal due to the reduced blood flow in his leg. And they have mentioned that if it doesn’t heal , they would consider another amputation, possible the foot or even below the knee.
Although he is in terrible pain, he does not want to have it done and is trying to convince himself and my 85 yr old mother that is is getting better. Because he has been going for treatment for the last 5 months with antibiotics, changing bandages , etc. But now the bone is exposed!
Has anyone been through this with an ageing parent. We don’t know what to do. It seems he’d rather die than to go through all of this and probably rehab.
They live in their home and I don’t know what would happen , I don’t think they could possibly stay there. With the stairs and all.
it is very sad.
thank you
