Hi all, I'm new to this community as I wanted to find out a bit more about COPD and everything surrounding it. I live with a relative who was diagnosed with it last Christmas. The doctors had told us that my Grandad has had it since 2015 but we reckon my Gramps and his forgetfulness and lack of organisation with his admin lead to us not knowing as he also seemed to not know himself. Long story short .. Christmas 2024 he was hospitalised with flu and this is when we found out he had COPD... He came home before the new year but was back in 6 days later for another 3 weeks. He did well not to smoke for 6 months as the shock of being in hospital and on a breathing machine scared the hell out of him but he's back on the cigarettes (not sure how many a day as it varies). I moved back home in April of this year and have noticed a massive decline in him, ankles swollen, coughing loads and even his breathing sounds loud and croaky. I'm not too sure which stage of COPD he's got but he's had observations done at hospital and they all seem normal. Nothing to worry about or abnormal. I constantly worry about him every day and the smoking is a bone of contention in the house so I do my best to go out most days to avoid arguments/disagreements but does anyone here have any advice on dealing with someone they love with COPD. I'm mentally struggling and I don't know how to deal with things without feeling some sort of guilt.
