Hello Friends!
Here we find ourselves on another beautiful Wednesday, and I hope you are doing well.
If you are like me, you are getting a little weary of talk of COVID-19. I’m not alone in that, right? I have been posting here for the past few weeks about things that we are doing here at the Williams Homestead to take our minds off of the crisis, use our time well, and be productive humans.
We have been doing and learning a lot of different things, but last week we did something fun! Well, I thought it was fun. Have you heard of the Getty Museum Challenge? If you haven’t you should check out their Instagram by searching #gettymuseumchallenge . They asked the public to recreate and photograph themselves in famous works of art using items from around their house. Each recreation was to be posted on Instagram side by side with the original work of art. Some of the posts are REALLY good!
I had been cleaning out a closet for our upcoming move and came across some old costume pieces and all of a sudden, the lightbulb in my brain began to glow! I set the scene by moving a few chairs, hanging a framed picture on the wall, and donning my costume. Then I called Hayden to come and take my photo as I recreated “Whistler’s Mother”. I could hardly stop giggling. It was a lot of fun! I am posting my side by side photos below for your amusement. Just between us, my costume consisted of a dark brown fleece blanket as my dress, an old knit cap for my bonnet, and an old eyelet table runner used as a shawl. It doesn’t have to be hard – just make it look similar.
Once I saw the picture Hayden captured, I got a good laugh. And honestly, I needed a good laugh. I hope you get a good laugh at this, too!
Have you participated in anything fun? Want to join me in the Getty Challenge? Have another idea for us to do here? I would love to hear about ways you are finding fun and exercising your sense of humor. Drop me a note in the comments here or in the activity feed. I can’t wait to hear from you!
