My mom had a saying for every situation. She was a school teacher for many years, so you can imagine that she had a lot of situations that needed to be handled every single day.
One of her sayings was this little gem, “It is easier to act your way into a feeling than feel your way into an action.” Most of the time this wisdom was shared with the household because someone said something to the effect that they didn’t feel like doing something. This saying came to mind this morning while I was doing a little early morning reading. I came across the word habitude. Are you familiar with it? According to Merriam-Webster, it is defined as “habitual disposition or mode of behavior”.
I started thinking about my own habits. How many habits do I have that would be considered good for me? How many bad habits? What kind of difference could it make over time if I change one or two of those bad habits? And the big question – can I change? I think that is why I heard her voice in my head. If I wait until I feel like making changes, it might not ever happen, but if I can put those thoughts into action I’m already halfway there!
Here we are at the beginning of this brand-new year. What can we do with it?
