COPD Foundation Now Accepting Donations Using Apple Pay
WASHINGTON, D.C. - November 14, 2016 - The COPD Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), today brings supporters the ability to donate with Apple Pay. COPD is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. and affects 30 million Americans. The progressive lung disease is characterized by increased breathlessness, coughing, and wheezing.
The COPD Foundation relies on the support of its membership to implement its research, education, and advocacy initiatives. Apple Pay will allow COPD Foundation supporters with the option of a more efficient and secure online financial transaction, making it easier for members to help the organization’s mission to help those affected by COPD.
Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code. Donating in apps and on websites accepting Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there’s no need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information.
"The COPD Foundation is committed to leveraging technology to help achieve our mission of improving the lives of all those affected by COPD, and hopefully one day, finding a cure,” said Vincent Malanga, chief information officer at the COPD Foundation, “First we launched our StopCOPD app for the COPD Foundation's Patient Powered Research Network, and we are now grateful for the opportunity to integrate Apple Pay into our online donation capabilities.”
Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards.
When making payments for goods, services and donations on the go in apps or Safari, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6 and later, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later. You can also use Apple Pay in Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra and confirm the payment with iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch.
