The COPD Foundation and Alpha-1 Foundation joined the Medicare Access of Patients Rx (MAPRx) Coalition in co-signing a letter that urged leaders of the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce to support Part D drug benefits in its 21st Century Cures initiative.
The MAPRx Coalition advocates for individuals with chronic diseases who require prescription medications obtained through Part D, and is comprised of more than 55 national patient, beneficiary, caregiver and health professional organizations.
“The Medicare prescription drug benefit is a critical lifeline to millions of Medicare beneficiaries by providing access to prescription drugs,” the coalition wrote in a letter addressed to U.S. Reps. Fred Upton and Diana DeGette. “Researchers found that implementation of the Medicare prescription drug program was followed by a decrease of more than $1,200 in non-drug medical spending among those who previously had limited drug coverage. While not perfect, Part D’s success and popularity suggests that the program is working well for many Medicare beneficiaries.”
