November 19 marked World COPD Day - a time for the COPD/Alpha-1 community to band together to inform the general public about the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
President and founder of the COPD Foundation, John W. Walsh, joined James Kiley, director of the Division of Lung Diseases at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in a radio media tour that aired on 20 stations across the country.
Kiley and Walsh discussed the general lack of awareness around the disease, prevalence rates across the country, ways to determine one's risk, and resources for individuals living with the disease.
Walsh highlighted his efforts to eliminate the stigma associated with COPD and stated, "It doesn’t matter how you get COPD - you have to deal with it."
