WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 28, 2013 –
The COPD Foundation (COPDF) announces today that it has partnered with Edison Nation Medical, an online resource for individuals who have an idea for improving healthcare but lack the knowledge or resources to make that idea a reality, to find and develop innovations that will improve the lives of those impacted by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The search will focus on finding various new ideas, from improvements to current respiratory therapy products on the market to new solutions that would make it easier for patients to take advantage of treatments. Submissions for the COPD Innovation Search will be accepted from today until August 9, 2013.
“Many of the best ideas for innovations can be found with those dealing with COPD on a daily basis – the patients and providers,” says John W. Walsh, president and co-founder, COPDF. “Edison Nation Medical will make it possible for us to uncover the ideas that will help those who have been diagnosed and are living with COPD -- and perhaps even a few ideas that will increase early diagnosis for those who may not realize they are living with the disease. COPD affects people from all walks of life, so concepts for this search should be accessible to all, affordable and easy to use.”
Edison Nation Medical will conduct the search through a confidential and secure online portal. Healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers can submit their ideas for review by a team of product development and medical experts. The best and brightest ideas may be designed, developed and licensed by the Edison Nation Medical team. As is customary, Edison Nation Medical will split royalties in half with any successful inventors. In addition, Edison Nation Medical will donate a portion of its 50 percent share to the COPD Foundation to assist with its continued efforts to increase resources to help the COPD community.
“The COPD Foundation was created to improve the quality of life for those suffering from COPD through research, education, early diagnosis and enhanced therapy,” says Louis Foreman, CEO, Edison Nation Medical. “We are gratified to play a role in helping the COPD community stay a step ahead of the disease by identifying not only new therapies but also new methods and devices for delivering critical therapies.”
