More than 24 million Americans have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), yet at least 12 million remain unaware of their condition. It is the fourth leading cause of death and costs to our country exceeded $69.3 billion in 2007. Unfortunately, there is no national plan to reduce the burden of COPD and to help those affected by it. We urge you to help us enact policies that address this problem and improve the lives of all Americans affected by COPD.
