Research
Because supporting research is part of the COPD Foundation’s mission, it has developed several programs and supported various others that help advance the search for new therapies, expand the availability of scientific information, in order to improve the quality of life for those affected by the disease. In its research programs, the COPD Foundation has also developed initiatives that include detecting those with COPD that are undiagnosed.
Below you will find information about the various Foundation programs that support and promote research projects.
Participate in COPD Research: Every individual with COPD should be actively participating in COPD research projects. The only way new therapies can be developed will be with the help of all individuals with COPD. The more individuals who participate, the faster the research, and the closer we move to a cure. In this section, find out what participating in research is all about.
Research Registry: Created in April of 2007, the COPD Foundation’s Research Registry is a confidential database of individuals with COPD who signed up to become part of the major research opportunities in new COPD therapies and treatments. The Registry was developed to support the COPDGene Study: an unprecedented study that will analyze the entire human genome to find additional genetic predispositions to developing COPD.
COPDGene Study: One of the largest studies every funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health is the COPDGene Study. In this section, you will find out what goals the study is trying to achieve, and how you can become involved.
Bronchiectasis Research Registry: This is the first registry ever established solely to create a scientific database of information dedicated to supporting research on bronchiectasis. Read about how the Bronchiectasis Research Consortium and Registry were developed, and where it’s headed.
