Donations can be made in a variety of ways to the COPD Foundation.

  • By credit card: Through our website.
  • By mail: Send checks payable to the COPD Foundation to 3300 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33134.

How long does it take for my donation to be processed?plus

If your donation is made by credit card, the card will be charged as soon as you finish submitting the information through our website. You will then receive a confirmation email to the email address you specified earlier in the donation process.

If your donation is made by check, it will be entered into our donor database a few days after it is received, after which it will be brought to the bank and cashed. Allowing for delays caused by disruptions in the postal system, checks should be cashed a maximum of two (2) weeks after you send them.

What is the typical turnaround time between when I make a donation and when I receive a donation acknowledgement letter? plus

Donation acknowledgement letters are mailed out at least twice a week. Domestic mail typically takes between three (3) and five (5) days to reach us, but may take as many as ten (10) days, especially when air traffic is disrupted. For donations made by credit card, please allow two (2) weeks for your donation acknowledgement letter. For donations made by mail, please allow up to three (3) weeks.

Donation acknowledgement letters are dated on the day that the donation is received; however, letters are always backdated to the calendar year in which they were made if they were made in one year and received in the next.

I have not received a donation acknowledgement letter, or the information in the letter is incorrect. Who do I contact to resolve this?plus

Please contact Spencer Hibnick at He may also be reached toll-free at 1-866-731-2673, Ext. 266. Our office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Eastern Time.

If people have made donations in my honor, or in memory of a loved one, will I receive notification?plus

Yes, you will receive the name and address of donors when a donation is made in your honor or in memory of a loved one. In order for us to send you notification, at least one donor must include your name and address along with their donation. There is a field for this in both the online donation form and the print-and-send donation form.

If we receive donations before we receive your contact information, we will not be able to send you notification, as we will not have it on file and the letter we send to you is generated as each donation is processed. You may, however, reach out to us at the email address below and we will provide you with a full list of individuals that donated in your honor or in memory of your loved one.

The notification letter will not include the amount that is donated, as we are not permitted to disclose that information.

If you are expecting donations to be made in your honor or in memory of a loved one and would like to ensure that your contact information is on file before the donations arrive, please contact Spencer Hibnick at

May I make an anonymous donation? How is the donation handled? plus

The COPD Foundation accepts anonymous donations. If you are making the donation online, there is a checkbox to indicate that the donation is anonymous. If you are donating by check, there is not such a field on the print-and-send donation form; however, you may indicate it by writing “anonymous” in the name field or at the top of the page.

If your donation is made anonymously, you will still receive a donation acknowledgement letter. If your donation is made in honor or in memory of another person, however, the honoree or family will not receive a letter. If the honoree or family will be receiving a letter due to other, non-anonymous donations, the number of anonymous donors will be indicated on that letter.

Do you accept donations of new or used medical equipment?plus

The COPD Foundation accepts donations of both new and gently used medical equipment to use onsite at Foundation events. Unfortunately the COPD Foundation will not be able to loan any equipment out to individuals. In order for us to accept the equipment, it must be in good working order. Donors will receive an acknowledgement letter with the appraised value of the donation. For more information on making a medical equipment donation, please contact Bill Clark at WCLARK@COPDFOUNDATION.ORG.

I would like to have the family and friends of my loved one to make donations to the COPD Foundation in lieu of flowers. What resources are available to me?plus

The COPD Foundation will send you paper donation forms and pre-addressed envelopes, upon request.

Alternatively, you could set up a memorial web page at FirstGiving. FirstGiving allows you to build an individual page with a photo and message about the person that the donations are being collected in memory of or in honor of. Donors may also leave messages for friends and family of that person on the page with their donations.

To request paper donation forms, or for assistance with FirstGiving, please contact Spencer Hibnick at

When I make a donation through a third-party website that takes a cut of the donation as a fee (FirstGiving, JustGive, etc.), am I credited for tax purposes for the full amount of the donation, or just the amount after the fee?plus

You are still credited for the full amount of the donation. However, if you want the full value of your donation to directly go to the COPD Foundation, you may donate directly through our website, or you may elect to pay the fee yourself on the third-party website.

I would like to organize a fundraiser for the benefit of the COPD Foundation. What resources are available to me?plus

If you are interested in holding a fundraiser, please request our “Individual Fundraising and Logo Usage Guideline” sheet from Janina Kowalski at
