Become a COPD Advocate

A COPD advocate is someone who stands up for the COPD community by making his or her voice heard in our representative democracy. Only by making ourselves heard can we help raise awareness, increase education, improve diagnosis, and fund research in order to improve the lives of everyone affected by COPD.

Why Be a COPD Advocate?

The COPD community needs you! Most Americans, including our elected leaders, are not informed about COPD so we are depending on individuals like you to raise your voice and help us fight for positive policy change for COPD. Changes in public policy could result in better COPD treatments, improved Medicare benefits, increased access to respiratory care, and even a cure. Help us reduce the burden of COPD in our country by becoming a certified COPD advocate today!

There are lots of ways to be an effective and successful COPD advocate. Some examples of advocacy activities are:

  • You can raise awareness by posting about COPD on your Facebook.
  • Write about COPD on your Facebook.
  • Visit your representative in their district office.
  • Write to the editor of your local paper about COPD.
  • Start a patient organization group in your area.
  • Become a State Advocacy Captain.

The easiest way to advocate for COPD is to visit the COPD Action Center. The COPD Action Center is the cornerstone of our advocacy strategy, providing advocates with information on current legislative campaigns and offers simple ways to make your voice heard in Congress.
