A diagnosis of COPD means that you will have to adopt a new
lifestyle. You will have to change your daily activities as well as others.
The following suggestions cover a few of the lifestyle changes you would
have to adopt if you have COPD.
What Does a
Diagnosis Mean for Me?
Make sure you receive your immunizations.
Many local pharmacies and grocery stores offer these shots. The flu shot
will help ensure you do not get sick.
Avoid germs at home and during outings.
- Wash your hands often
- Avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose
Take it easy! It is easy to forget to take
care of yourself. Do not forget to:
- Eat healthy snacks
- Drink lots of water
- Get plenty of sleep. When your body is tired, you are more likely
to get sick.
- Avoid getting fatigued by doing a little at a time. Also, try to be
around people who can assist you.
- Keep your prescriptions filled and follow your dosing schedule.
- Call your doctor at the first sign of a cold.
Careful planning will help make daily living
with COPD much better. Make note of what items at home or work you use most
often. Figure out ways to put them in places that you can reach.
Many products may help make daily living more
simple, such as a shower stool. If basic tasks take less effort, you will
be able to do more things you enjoy.
Try to get rid of dust in your home. Work to
make the air in your home very clean. Clean often, remove clutter, and
change the air filters often.
