Continuing Medical Educational events and workshops have proven to be successful in spreading awareness of better practices in COPD diagnosis and management, and in researching new ways to improve the quality of health care received by individuals with COPD for all allied health care professionals. The COPD Foundation has hosted a variety of CME and CEU events, and workshops, of which documents have been published. The "10 Steps" to a COPD Diagnosis
In collaboration with MedscapeCME and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, the COPD Foundation has developed a comprehensive online learning activity titled: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Is Treatable but Only if It's Diagnosed: Ten Steps to Improve Outcomes for Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The “10 Steps” program was funded by an unrestricted educational grants from AstraZeneca, CSL Behring, Forest Pharmaceuticals Inc, Pfizer Inc, and Talecris Biotherapeutics. “10 Steps” is available on MedscapeCME in English and Spanish.
Understanding the Role of Spirometry Video Series
The COPD Foundation and MedscapeCME have developed a comprehensive online learning video series titled: Understanding the Role of Spirometry in COPD. This program was funded by an unrestricted educational grant from AstraZeneca. The activity is intended for primary care clinicians, pulmonary medicine specialists, and other specialists who may diagnose and manage patients with COPD. You can access the videos on Medscape CME.
Connect to the COPD Connection Newsletter
In educational collaboration with National Jewish Health, the COPD Foundation has developed the COPD Connection, a new CME program designed to positively impact patient care by improving the knowledge, competence and performance for health care professionals in the treatment of COPD. COPD Connection is a comprehensive newsletter covering patient education, diagnosis, comorbid conditions, medication, exacerbations management and prevention of COPD and is intended for Family Care Physicians, Internal Medicine Physicians Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.

After you've read through the newsletter, you can go online to National Jewish Health’s Continuing Education portal for health care professionals to take the post-test and print out your CE certificate. In addition, you'll receive a 30-day and 60-day follow up surveys to find out if they are using the information that they learned in their practice.
